The object below the lights is the base station that receives various information via the Internet. Each tube of light is connected to a different variable and as this number begins to change so does the flicker of the fluorescent bulb. Once the lights stop flickering it means that the data has been received. The data is an aggregation of global environmental sensors and cameras, which are then displayed through projectors embedded inside the object.
The object itself is waterproof and floatable and therefore, already prepared for the worst-case scenario. Flicker, is in some ways a medium of providing apocalyptic revelations of the things that are not visible to us in our everyday lives.
